In addition, the incumbent has successfully completed a Food Handling Course and holds a diploma from a recognized college; a red seal designation is an asset, as is experience with seniors. Availability to work various shifts will be required.

The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Preparing and cooking meals for senior residents of a retirement residence according to the menus in place;
• Providing special diet requirements;
• Assisting/supervising the dietary staff while ensuring a clean and safe work environment is maintained;
• General kitchen duties.

Candidates are invited to apply for the position of part-time 30 hours bi-weekly Handyperson at our Extendicare Scarborough facility located in Scarborough, Ontario.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintenance and servicing of equipment, furnishings, fixtures and outside grounds.
• General maintenance around the facility (i.e. mechanical) repairs, patchwork, painting, plumbing and minor electrical work.
• Performs general carpentry work and repairs such as installing floor and wall tiles, repairing drywall, replacing doors and door hardware, repairing roof leaks, painting, installing wallpaper and other redecorating tasks.
• Must adhere to established policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire safety and environment and infection control.
• Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or delegate.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have mechanical aptitude and be able to read and write the English language.
• Experience in patchwork, painting and wallpapering preferred

JOB SUMMARY:
The Nurse Manager is accountable for directing and managing staff of the home, meeting with families, addressing immediate resident care requirements, completing quality assurance assignments, ensuring staffing coverage and coordination of emergency response protocols in the absence of the other home managers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

• Guides the health care team to provide effective care for all individuals on the resident home area.
• Ensures and promotes the provision of resident centered care and services to meet the needs of the resident.

• Makes independent decisions and practices sound judgment in response to resident care requirements in accordance with accepted standards of nursing practice.
• Organizes and coordinates nursing with hospital, home and community to meet individual, family and group needs.
• Participates in the recruitment, orientation, performance management and training of employees as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS (but not limited to):

• Degree or diploma from an accredited university or college in Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse.
• Current registration as a registered nurse or registered practical nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current Medication Administration Certificate, which meets the College of Nurses Standards of Practice.  Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate.
• Minimum of 3 years geriatric and management experience.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation governing the long-term care sector, for example, Long Term Care Homes Act, Residents’ Bill of Rights, employment standards. Demonstrates an understanding of current trends and concepts relative to professional nursing, and has a sound knowledge in geriatric care and nursing administration.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director is accountable for optimum resident services in accordance with quality management, legislative requirements and the organization standards. Through effective planning, direction and control, the Executive Director has the responsibility for the overall operations of the home within the allocated resources and oversees all financial matters pertaining to the home.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

• Plans, co-ordinates, direct and monitor the effectiveness of all operational activities of the Home.
• Provides financial leadership by managing budgets and monitoring long-term strategic fiscal plans, including ensuring sufficient resources/equipment are available through budget preparation, maintenance and the hiring of appropriate and adequate staffing levels.
• Oversees the recruitment, employee and labour relations, payroll and benefits, orientation, occupational and non-occupational injury/illness, performance management, training, education and other people related functions of the Home.
• Responds promptly to concerns of residents and family members, mediating a satisfactory response to concerns and implements action plans to avoid reoccurrence of similar issues.
• Implement a comprehensive, coordinated, Home-wide program for monitoring, evaluation and improving quality of care and services, as well as an efficient system for the admission and discharge of residents through effective liaison with appropriate contacts and resources.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS (but not limited to):

• Post-secondary degree from a program that is a minimum of three years in duration, or
• Post-secondary diploma in health or social services from a program that is a minimum of two years in duration.
• Successful completion or enrollment in a program in long-term care home administration or management that is a minimum of 100 hours in duration of instruction time.
• Possess the qualifications to be an Administrator in the Province of Ontario.
• A minimum of 3 year’s’ experience in a management or leadership role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

• Preparing food in accordance with the regular and therapeutic menu, the standardized recipes for the home and meets time requirements for meal times.
• Assisting in serving meals following residents’ diets using appropriate serving utensils and portion sizes to residents (by name of resident).
• Quality control of menu products such as tasting samples, labelling and keeping daily samples for testing for seven (7) days, monitor and discard samples in accordance with the organization policies and procedures.
• Communicates and consults with the Director of Dietary Services regarding any menu substitutions if necessary and records and reports appropriately.
• Ensures use of proper and safe food handling techniques.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS (but not limited to):

• Chef training or culinary management diploma from a program that meets the standard established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities.
• Must maintain a current Food Handler’s Certificate.
• At least 1 year experience as a cook in the Food Service Industry.
• Red Seal Designation preferred.
• Must be knowledgeable with respect to the nutritional and other appropriate needs of geriatric residents.

The primary responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to: painting, cleaning, plumbing, yard work, unloading deliveries, and assisting residents; completing various routines for preventative maintenance, general repairs and daily monitoring of building systems, as well as HVAC.

An Occupational Health and Safety Certificate is an asset as is WHMIS. The ideal candidate possesses related work experience, a valid driver’s licence, and is a co-operative team player. Availability to work days, evenings and weekends is also required.
