Job Description

Candidates are invited to apply for the position of a full time MDS-RAI Coordinator to work at the FJ Davey Home, a 374 bed long-term care facility, located in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The successful candidate will be one of two RAI Coordinators along with a Super Coder team.

Reporting to the Executive Director/Directors of Nursing, the RAI Coordinator is responsible in the management of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care mandated system of resident assessments and quality clinical outcomes. The RAI Coordinator will assist in collecting/submitting all necessary data within timelines; provide ongoing education to facility staff about the requirements for data collection and reporting guidelines that support the Home’s funding system.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the completion of the MDS assessments, supplementary assessments including care planning on all residents within established criteria and timelines
  • Understands how the MDS assessment integrates with existing clinical tools and provides leadership in these processes
  • Communicating consistently with the RAI users and management team
  • Monitoring and providing on-site support to all RAI users in the home
  • Providing MDS/RAI education and computer application training as required to all users
  • Ensuring a resident assessment schedule is developed, completed, current and accessible
  • Assisting to correctly code assessments and providing support for validation of coding
  • Working with the interdisciplinary team to develop processes that ensure data accuracy, efficient data collection, assessment completion and data utilization
  • Abiding by home policies, all legislative regulations including MOHLTC; College standards of Practice and interRAI requirements
  • Generating RAI. CIHI reports, interprets and facilitates their use in clinical and operational decision making and understands and provides the critical analysis of data at different levels of aggregation for facility leadership
  • Ensuring the coordination of the data submission process – Batches and submits assessments quarterly and as required to CIHI
  • Able to articulate the financial implications of coding inconsistencies
  • Acts as a key contact and liason with CIHI, PCC or others as appropriate related to RAI data
  • Facilitates response and correction of submission errors
  • Provides ongoing leadership and coaches key facility personnel to build capacity for understanding of the MDS RAI system including education, data accuracy, data submission and computer applications
  • Develops and introduces processes, and systems to improve accuracy of RAI content
  • Maintains competency of current knowledge through different venues including self learning, educational opportunities, RAI trends and annual AIS review.
  • Responsible for Clinical and Admin Set up role to support MDS within the PCC software program
  • Understands RAPS, Outcome Scales, New Generation Quality indicators; original CHSRA Quality Indicators and its application

 Qualifications

  • Current license of competence and in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario required – RPN
  • Registration or eligible for registration with the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario. (RPNAO)
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Long Term Care – clinical and leadership experience
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of nursing and health care practices including LTCH Act and Regulations, MDS-RAI
  • Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential. Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally whether in person or over the phone, and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanor.
  • Working knowledge of Adult Education principles/facilitation; Continuous Quality Improvement Principles; Data Analysis
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and with others while prioritizing tasks to handle the most urgent first.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills with an aptitude for detail-oriented work
  • Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent work ethics including attendance is a must
